Caribou Under Silver Moon (SOLD)298 viewsThis painting came from thinking obut the Debert campsite, which is said to be between ten and twelve thousand years old. This land was said to be savannah land, very lush, similar to Africa, filled with animals of all descriptions. Those animals supported this camp which was said to be sixty square acres. There are three caribou grazing on this plain. The silver moon represents the fact that in ten thousand years, there have been one hundred and thirty thousand moons.

Five Red Feathers241 viewsThis painting is a man with red ochre on this face and feathers. I used my own hand-prints for his hands. All the coloured dots symbolize spirits in the air. This piece reminded of a King Crimson album cover I once saw.

Four Gold Feathers323 viewsThis painting is part of the humans blending with the forest, and becoming one with it, making both interchangable. There are ferns used for double curve motif in Mi'k maq society.

|

Four Humpback Whales484 viewsThis drum is unique in that it's base is made from an eight-hundred year old cedar tree from New Brunswick. It is decorated with four humpback whales swimming around a Mi'k maq eight-point star. This drum has a superb voice and is able to make many different sounds. The tree sap is coming out of the wood and colouring the moose skin, this process will continue with time. The tree is part of the natural painting process.

|

Green Grass340 viewsThis painting is a tribute to sweet grass and it's contribution to the spiritual life of Mi'k maq society, purifying the environment so that ceremony's can be held.

|

Horned Snake (SOLD)335 viewsThe Great Horned Snake appears in many Mi'k maq legends. One role it would play when conjured up by a shaman, was to capture the enemy and pin it to a tree with it's great horn, and the only red ochre would release the horn.

Man in Yellow Light (SOLD)556 viewsThis painting is a Mi'k maq shaman placing stars in the sky, making sure that new stars will have their place in the night sky. I was flying to Ottawa, once, and I thought I could see him at work.

|

Moose Against Blue Sky (SOLD)418 viewsI thought I saw this moose just after the sun had set, when reality can be blurred. I thought I could hear him making his call. Maybe he was singing to all the other moose that came before him.

|

Mother Earth (SOLD)437 viewsThis painting is of Mother Earth coming out as the sun is going down, and the last glimmers of gold are dancing on the earth. This dance is hard to see, and you must look closely.

Quill Basket Mural414 viewsQuill baskets are important designs in Mi'k maq society. Quill basket making does not have a long history with our people, but are based on ideas that are very old. Mi'k maq basketry is said to be the best in the world. The Quill Basket Mural is a part of a new series that I'm working on. I would like to scale them up as well as having them seen as abstract paintings, viewed in a new way.

Red Clay Mask and Gold Stars (SOLD)300 viewsWhen I think of someone who has crossed over, a friend of mine or an aquaitance, I will do a portrait of them. It's never a realistic portrait. It's a reminder of them, an how I felt about them. I give the mask eyes to make it come alive. In that way, the memory comes alive.

Red Earth (SOLD)339 viewsRed ochre is usen in many of my newer works. It is a direct link to my ancestors who used it in ceremonies. Like my DNA, it is a true link to them. This world is covered with sunbeams of gold and just before the sun goes down, the spirits make their appearance, but you have to be vigilante to see this phenomenon.
