mi'kmaq american indian Alan Syliboy

Welcome to my new website. Here, you will be able to access 30 years of my work, new and old, as well as info on upcoming projects. For the last thirty years, I have been researching all aspects of Mi'kmaq culture to incorporate into my art.

This is a difficult task, as there is so precious little remaining. I interview elders that are basket makers, and story-tellers, as well as a Mi'kmaq archaeologist that provide me a new perspective on artifacts, and their meaning. Also being part of ceremonies, brings me closer to understanding the purpose.

The Stone Canoe is my latest endeavor, which involves illustrating Mi'kmaq stories from the 1800's that have not been altered in any way. This is truly an historic event, and these are my first illustrations for stories.

So come aboard the Stone Canoe, and be a part of it's voyage into the mystic. Learn about these two lost, historic Mi'kmaq texts, here, sign my guestbook, or make an appointment to visit my studio, where the tea is always brewing.

In the mean time why not check out my online art gallery.
